And they laid open the books of the law, in which the Gentiles searched for the likeness of their idols:
The Gentiles would have consulted their idols in such a situation, but the Israelites unrolled
They unrolled the scroll of the law, to learn about the things for which the Gentiles consulted the images of their idols.
